שוטרי מחוז מרכז עצרו הלילה בתום מצוד מבצעי מהיר וממוקד, חשוד במעורבות באירוע זריקת רימון לעבר מבנה מגורים בעיר יבנה. החשוד נעצר בתוך שעות ספורות מרגע האירוע, והיום אחר הצהריים יובא לבית המשפט בבקשה להאריך את מעצרו.
החקירה נפתחה לאחר שבמהלך הלילה התקבל דיווח במוקד המשטרה על נזק שנגרם בכניסה למבנה מגורים ביבנה, ככל הנראה כתוצאה מהתפוצצות פריט אמל"ח. חוקרי תחנת יבנה במרחב שפלה הגיעו לזירה, פעלו לאיסוף ממצאים ופתחו בחקירה מואצת לבירור נסיבות האירוע והרקע לו.
במסגרת הפעולות החקירתיות, הצליחו חוקרי התחנה לחשוף בתוך זמן קצר את זהותו של החשוד תושב כפר סבא בשנות ה־20 לחייו והוא נעצר על ידי השוטרים.
בכוונת שוטרי תחנת רמלה במרחב שפלה להביא את החשוד בהמשך היום לבית משפט השלום, לדיון בבקשה להאריך את מעצרו בהתאם לצורכי החקירה.
ממשטרת ישראל נמסר כי היא פועלת בנחישות ובאפס סובלנות נגד שימוש באמצעי לחימה במרחב האזרחי, ותמשיך לפעול במהירות ובנחישות כדי לאתר ולעצור מעורבים באירועים המסכנים חיי אדם.
