בזכות ערנות ותגובה מהירה של תצפיתני מרכז השליטה של מרחב דוד במחוז ירושלים, נעצר אמש חשוד בהתעללות בבעל חיים בעיר העתיקה בירושלים.
התצפיתנים זיהו בזמן אמת תיעוד חמור מסמטה בעיר העתיקה, שבו נראה החשוד כשהוא אוחז בחתול בזנבו ומשליך אותו באוויר. עם זיהוי המקרה, הועבר דיווח מיידי לשוטרי מרחב דוד וללוחמי מג״ב ירושלים שפעלו באזור.
הכוחות הגיעו במהירות למקום, איתרו את החשוד נער בן 17, תושב ירושלים ועצרו אותו. החשוד הועבר לחקירה במרחב דוד, והחקירה בעניינו נמשכת.
במשטרה מדגישים כי שילוב של יכולות טכנולוגיות מתקדמות, פעילות מקצועית וערנות אנושית של התצפיתנים והשוטרים בשטח, אפשרו תגובה מהירה, מעצר החשוד ופתיחה בחקירה במטרה למנוע המשך פגיעה ולשלוח מסר חד וברור של אפס סובלנות כלפי אלימות, הן כלפי בני אדם והן כלפי בעלי חיים.
משטרת ישראל מסרה כי היא רואה בחומרה רבה כל פגיעה בבעלי חיים, מדובר בעבירה חמורה ובלתי מתקבלת על הדעת, והמשטרה תפעל בנחישות למיצוי הדין עם כל מי שמעורב במעשים מסוג זה.
